Media and Film Staff Visa
A MEDIA AND FILM STAFF (subclass 423) visa allows for the entry of persons who seek to represent an overseas news organisation as a journalist, correspondent or reporter in Australia. It also allows for the entry of film crew members including actors, photographers and other support staff seeking to make a documentary program or a commercial that is exclusively for overseas use and not being produced for the Australian market.
Please note: An ETA/ eVisitor is not the appropriate visa category for Media and Film Staff.
Sports Visa
A SPORTS (subclass 421) visa allows entry of sports people (including officials) and their support staff, to take part in specific events in Australia, and sports people joining Australian sports clubs or organisations
In certain circumstances, a sports person may be eligible for other visas.

How to apply for subclasses 421 or 423
1. Please complete, sign and date Form 147.

When completing your form, please ensure that you quote your last name and first name exactly as stated in your PASSPORT and do not use a pencil. Please attach to your application one recent passport photograph of yourself (and all family members included in the application).
2. Visa Application Charge
Visa applications processed by the Embassy incur an application fee.
The Visa Application Charge is levied per application, any accompanying family members are included. This is a processing charge and cannot be refunded irrespective of the outcome of the application.
3. Sponsorship / Nomination
For stays of under 3 months, Applicants for subclass 423 Media and Film Staff visas should provide supporting statement from overseas media organisation. This statement should contain details of the appointment as a media representative or crew, ie. proposed period and purpose of the stay in Australia as well as details regarding the financial aspect of the stay. If however, you intend a stay in Australia of more than three months, you require a sponsorship. An Australian citizen, resident or media organisation must obtain Sponsorship form 55 from the nearest office of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), complete it and to return it promptly to the same DIAC office in Australia. The DIAC office will notify your sponsor when the sponsorship has been approved. Your sponsor will notify you of the approval and should also forward a copy of the approved sponsorship form to this office. Legible facsimile copies can be accepted. As we are not involved in the processing of nominations, please address all enquiries to your event organiser and not to us.
Applicants for subclass 421 Sport visas should ask their event organiser or team in Australia to obtain form 55 from the nearest office of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), to complete it and to return it promptly to the same DIAC office in Australia. The DIAC office will notify your sponsor when the sponsorship has been approved. Your sponsor will notify you of the approval and should also forward a copy of the approved sponsorship form to this office. Legible facsimile copies can be acceptable. As we are not involved in the processing of sponsorships, please address all enquiries to your event organiser and not to us. To avoid disappointment, we recommend that your event organiser submit its sponsorship as early as possible.
4. Health Clearance (if applicable)
Please refer to the Health Requirements to see if your circumstances and the nature/duration of your visit require you to undergo any health clearance formalities.

5. Family members included in the application
If you are travelling with your spouse and / or dependent children they must be included in your sponsorship approval as well as in your application form. Accompanying family must also undergo any necessary health clearances.
6. Valid Passport
Your original passport (and those of other family members included in your application) should be enclosed with your visa application. It should be valid for the entire period of your stay in Australia and must contain at least one blank page.

8. Important Information
We recommend that you do not make travel commitments until after the visa has been approved. Visa applications are processed by the embassy as fast as possible and in the order of receipt. Processing times can vary greatly (see below for processing times) and you should allow for this when making your travel plans.
