If you wish to settle in Australia as the partner of an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia, then you will have to apply for a migration visa.

A partner includes:

 Spouse - the husband, wife or de facto partner of your sponsor and your 
   dependents, including children
 Prospective spouse (fiance) - you must have met your sponsor and intend to 
   marry him/her in Australia
 Interdependent partner - mostly refers to same-sex couples. You and your 
   sponsor must be 18 years of age and have a genuine and ongoing relationship 
   and plan to live together in Australia




How to lodge a Partner Migration application:

 1. Obtain the forms and further information

When completing your form, please ensure that you quote your last name and first name exactly as stated in your PASSPORT and do not use a pencil. Please attach to your application one recent passport photograph of yourself.




 2. Visa Application Charge

The Visa Application Charge is levied per application and includes any dependent family members. The Visa Application Charge is a processing charge and cannot be refunded irrespective of the outcome of the application. Payment for visa applications may only be made in EUROs using credit card (Visa or Master Card only)

 3. Documents to be included with your application

Please note: The booklet and the information guide may ask you to supply even more information but you should refer to the 3 document checklists provided below. This has been specifically prepared for clients applying in Berlin so that we can process your application as quickly as possible.

Please note, however, that our office may ask you to send additional documents or attend an interview during the course of processing your application.





 LIST ONE - These documents you should send as originals.

 LIST TWO - These documents you should send as certified copies.

 LIST THREE - These documents you should send as photocopies.


 

Please do not send the following items as part of your application:

 Phonecards; videos; photo albums; individual personal E-Mail messages to each
   other

 You may be required to provide extra evidence to document your relationship,
   but please do not do so unless we write to you specifically asking for more
   information.

 Please do not place your application in a folder, use plastic pockets for storage
   of your documents or staple documents together as this slows the processing of
   your application




 4. Health Clearance

All migrants going to Australia have to have a full medical examination, a lung x-ray (if aged 11 or over) and an HIV test (if aged 15 or over). Please refer to our list of panel doctors for details of the nearest doctor to you.

 5. Valid Passport and Return Envelope

Your passport should not be enclosed with your visa application. We shall ask for it once we are ready to issue your migration visa. It must contain at least one blank page.

 7. Important Additional Information

We recommend that you do not make travel commitments until after the visa has been approved. Visa applications are processed by the embassy as fast as possible and in the order of receipt. Processing times can vary greatly (see below for processing times) and you should allow for this when making your travel plans.
