Working Holiday Maker (subclass 417)
As part of the Australian Government's online visa service, people who are eligible can apply for a Working Holiday visa over the internet from outside Australia.
The visa may be used to: travel to Australia for a stay of up to 12 months; and/or
study or train for up to 4 months; and/or
combine a holiday with work and supplement your funds with incidental work.
If your main purpose for travelling to Australia is to work, you should consider a visa intended for work purposes.

To apply for this visa you must: be outside Australia; and
be between 18 and 30 (inclusive) years old; and
have no dependent family members; and
hold a valid passport (Reisepass) of one of the following countries;

Step 1 - Before you start your application
Check whether you meet the requirements as described above; and
have the following documents/information ready: the passport (Reisepass) that you will use to enter Australia [should be valid for your intended period of stay in Australia]; and
a valid credit card to pay the application charge of AU$ 190.-.
Step 2 - Apply for your visa online
The online application form will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. You should be prepared to answer questions regarding previous trips to Australia and other countries, your health and your intended stay in Australia. All questions will be asked in English. You may be required to provide further documents to complete your online application, in which case you will be notified by e-mail. Please make sure to note your transaction reference number after you finalised the process (for example: EGNM4XF78).

Step 3 - Check the status of your visa online
You may at any time check the status of your application or download a copy of your grant letter, if your visa has been granted.

A paper application will take longer to be processed (between 3 and 4 weeks). You should send ALL of the below listed documentation for us to consider your application. If you fail to send any of the listed items, processing of your application may be delayed.

Important Information for Working Holiday Maker applicants
I am not elegible for a WHM visa, are there any alternatives?
You may wish to consider visiting Australia as a tourist for up to 12 months without the permission to work or you may want to apply for a student visa. Swiss nationals may contact their own government to learn more about government exchange programs.
