Migrating as a Skilled Worker
Opportunities for Skilled Workers in Australia
There are currently many opportunities in Australia for skilled workers in a wide range of professions.
Occupations for which there is currently an extreme shortage in Australia are listed on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL).
See: Migration Occupations in Demand List - DIAC Website
A list of the occupations through which you can apply for skilled migration is included on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Skilled Occupation List [SOL] - DIAC Website (PDF)
In most circumstances, to be eligible for skilled migration to Australia, you must: Be under 45 when you apply,
have the skills and qualifications that meet the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
See: Changes to General Skilled Migration Programme
See: Eligibility of Main Applicant [point system]
The Skill Matching Database is a useful service for linking migrants with employers. It's a free web-based tool that helps employers locate skilled people who have applied to migrate to Australia. The database is accessed by employers and State and Territory governments who are seeking to fill skilled vacancies or skill shortages in Australia.
Listing your qualifications and employment history on the Skill Matching Database increases your chances of being offered a job in Australia.
See: Skill Matching Database - DIAC Website
